100 Good Wishes Quilt
Dear friends,While we are waiting for the arrival of our children, we are working on a project with which we need your assistance. We are creating a “100 Good Wishes Quilt.” To welcome and celebrate a new life, there is a tradition in the northern part of China to make a Bai Jia Bei, or “100 Good Wishes Quilt.” It is a custom to invite 100 people to contribute a single square of material. The 100 pieces of material are then sewn together into a quilt that contains the luck, energy, and good wishes from all the family and friends who contributed a piece of fabric. The quilt is then passed down from generation to generation. We love the idea of welcoming our baby into our home with a quilt … Read entire article »

Aaron tries his first Vietnamese food….
Ok so I am sorry it has been a few days since our last post but those few days have been JAMMED with information and experiences! First paperwork issues….(1) We have mailed off the application for my passport (I have waited forever to get one of these and cannot wait to use it!) I should have it in 6 to 8 weeks!!!!! (2) We received a call from the adoption agency that partners with ours – for now we are approved for two children and we are moving ahead full speed (no one yet has told us that we cannot say that we would prefer a boy and a girl – even if we will take whatever we get!) So things are moving forward even it does not always feel that … Read entire article »

Ok first…a certified copy of my birth certificate came today! I could not be happier! One step closer to the end of the paperchase! So today I was thinking that I would talk about this process and how it works, well at least our understanding at this time! I cannot promise that things will not change as we go but this is our current understanding! The easiest way to describe this process is in our own three stages of “pregnancy” (1) the paper chase (2) the wait and (3) travel and child (or children we hope!). The problem with this “pregnancy” is it might be more similar to the gestation period of an elephant, but worth the wait! Today I will talk about the paperchase as that is where we stand now! … Read entire article »

Carissa's First Meltdown
The concept of our own children excites me! I know that they tell you that your children are growing in your heart, but I already feel that they are mine, just someone else is taking care of them. I cannot wait to change their diapers, get up in the middle of the night, start college funds, and deal with issues of sharing, fear of the dark and potty training as well as everything else that comes with parenthood. Today I was listening to Steven Curtis Chapman’s song “All I Want For Christmas” (For any of you out there who know me this will come as no surprise, for those who do not know me this is an inherent flaw that I have never been able to over come – I listen … Read entire article »
Our First Post
This is our first blog ever but we figure that we could add that to a lot of firsts lately! I guess this post will be about Aaron and I… (and I should add a disclaimer that Carissa will most likely be the one doing most of the posting – I tend to be a bit verbose so I apologize in advance!) I (Carissa) am an attorney. I grew up in Central Illinois and went to Monmouth College and Southern Illinois University School of Law. I currently work in Springfield, Illinois in a general practice firm! I love anything Disney or panda related! I have wanted to adopt my entire life. A very good friend, probably my best friend as a child is from Vietnam and so the country is very … Read entire article »
